AVR vs DVR: The Key Difference Is Energy Storage

AVR vs DVR: The Key Difference Is Energy Storage

When voltage drops deeply, a traditional AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) has a fundamental limitation:
❌ No independent energy storage
❌ Compensation energy comes from the grid itself
❌ When grid voltage drops too much, AVR cannot fully restore the voltage to 100%

AVR can only regulate within its available range. The deeper the voltage sag, the harder it becomes to maintain the output voltage.

A DVR (Dynamic Voltage Restorer) works differently:
✅ Independent compensation energy source
✅ Fast voltage injection within milliseconds
✅ Capable of restoring voltage sags up to 100% depth even outage

The difference is simple:
AVR regulates the voltage that exists.
DVR creates the missing voltage when the grid cannot provide it.
For continuous voltage fluctuation → AVR/AVC
For sudden voltage sag/interruption and critical load protection → DVR
Choose the right solution based on the actual power quality problem.
