⚡ Not every voltage problem requires a UPS.
In an automotive painting factory, the production line was facing voltage disturbances that affected the process stability.
The original solution was a UPS system. However, the annual energy cost of operating the UPS was extremely high — over USD 7 million per year.
After analyzing the actual power quality issue, it was found that the problem was not a long-duration power outage, but mainly voltage sags (short-duration voltage drops).
A UPS is designed for backup power during outages, but using it for frequent voltage sag protection can lead to unnecessary energy consumption and maintenance costs.
By replacing the solution with an Active Voltage Conditioner (AVC), the annual operating cost was reduced to around USD 700,000, achieving nearly 90% cost reduction.
The lesson:
✅ Understand the real power quality problem first
✅ Choose the right technology for the right application
✅ Avoid over-engineering and unnecessary operating costs
For industries such as automotive manufacturing, semiconductor, data centers, and other sensitive processes, milliseconds of voltage disturbance can impact production.
The right power quality solution starts with accurate analysis.
